【摘要】:Thispracticeisintendedtoprovidetheuserwithinformationontheappropriatemethodsandproceduresforinstallingprepackedscreenmonitoringwellsbydirectpushmethods.Themonitoringwellsmaybeusedtoobtainrepresentativewaterqualitysamplesforaqueousphasecontaminantsorotheranalytesofinterest,eitherorganicorinorganic(Krametal.2000,McCall2000,McCalletal.1997).Themonitoringwellsmayalsobeusedtoobtaininformationonthepotentiometricsurfaceofthelocalaquiferandpropertiesoftheformationsuchashydraulicconductivityortransmissivity.Useofdirectpushmethodstoinstallmonitoringwellscansignificantlyreducetheamountofpotentiallyhazardousdrillcuttingsgeneratedduringwellinstallationatcontaminatedsites.Thismaysignificantlyreducecostofanenvironmentalsiteinvestigationandgroundwatermonitoringprogram.Minimizinggenerationofhazardouswastealsoreducestheexposurehazardstositeworkers,localresidents,andtheenvironment.Directpushmethodsformonitoringwellinstallationarelimitedtouseinunconsolidatedformationssuchasalluvial/streamsediments,glacialdeposits,andbeachtypesediments.Directpushmethodsaregenerallysuccessfulatpenetratingclays,silts,sandsandsomegravel.Depositssuchassoilswiththickcalichelayers,orglacialtillswithlargecobblesorbouldersmaybedifficultorimpossibletopenetratetothedesireddepth.Directpushmethodsarenotdesignedforpenetrationofconsolidatedbedrocksuchaslimestone,graniteorgneiss.1.1Thispracticeisbasedonrecognizedmethodsbywhichdirectpushmonitoringwellsmaybedesignedandinstalledforthepurposeofdetectingthepresenceorabsenceofacontaminant,andcollectingrepresentativegroundwaterqualitydata.Thedesignstandardsandinstallationprocedureshereinareapplicabletobothdetectionandassessmentmonitoringprogramsforfacilities.1.2Therecommendedmonitoringwelldesign,aspresentedinthispractice,isbasedontheassumptionthattheobjectiveoftheprogramistoobtainrepresentativegroundwaterinformationandwaterqualitysamplesfromaquifers.Monitoringwellsconstructedfollowingthispracticeshouldproducerelativelyturbidity-freesamplesforgranularaquifermaterialsrangingfromgravelstosiltysand.Stratahavinggrainsizessmallerthantherecommendeddesignforthesmallestdiameterfilterpackmaterialsshouldbemonitoredbyalternativemonitoringwelldesignswhicharenotaddressedinthispractice.1.3Directpushproceduresarenotapplicableformonitoringwellinstallationunderallgeologicandsoilconditions(forexample,installationinbedrock).Otherrotarydrillingproceduresareavailableforpenetrationoftheseconsolidatedmaterialsforwellconstructionpurposes(GuideD5092).Additionally,undersomegeologicconditionsitmaybeappropriatetoinstallmonitoringwellswithoutafilterpack(EPA1991).GuideD6724maybereferredtoforadditionalinformationontheseandothermethodsforthedirectpushinstallationofgroundwatermonitoringwells.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.1.6Thispracticeoffersasetofinstructionsforperformingoneorm......
